The Blue Mountains Concert Society presented its first concert on the 24th August, 1966. The performers were the Suk Trio of Prague. In the 40 years since then, music lovers in the district have enjoyed a subscription series every year, as well as occasional non-subscription concerts. We owe a debt of gratitude to the founders of the Concert Society, the late Fred Astle and Duncan McPhee-Smith, to Musica Viva, and to all those committee members who, over the years, have accepted positions of responsibility.
Every subscriber to a series of five concerts or more (excluding the Benefit Concert) automatically becomes a member of the Society and is entitled to attend the Annual General Meeting, to be held this year on Thursday 4th December, 2008, at 7.30 p.m. in the Springwood Neighbourhood Centre. The A.G.M. elects the Committee to run the society until the next A.G.M.
The Blue Mountains Concert Society largely depends on its subscribers who pay in advance for a year’s series of concerts. Over the years a consistently high standard of performance has attracted a large core of members and the selection of artists for 2008 is especially strong. In addition our range of subscription concerts extends to seven in number, giving the five-concert subscriber a choice, including the option of attending extra concerts.
